Landslide hazard zonation maps are              prepared at NBRO by integrating the individual contributions made by              factors such as;
(I) bedrock geology
(II) hydrology & drainage
(III) surface overburden
(IV) slope angle range
(V) land use
(VI) land forms
 In these maps, zones that are labeled as
(1) landslides are expected
(2) modest level of landslide hazard exists
(3) landslides are not likely to occur
(4) safe slopes indicate the distribution of relative landslide potential in a given area.
The scope of the NBRO’s mapping programme was to generate landslide hazard zonation maps that can be utilized in the process of development to identify the potential landslide hazard in the mountainous area of the country. The landslide hazard zonation maps are available at 1:50,000 scale covering the districts of Matale, Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura. 1: 10,000 scale maps are also available for selected areas in Badulla and other districts listed above.
We say that a flow has occurred if the material moving downslope is being transported as a very thick fluid (like a river of debris, rock, and/or soil), rather than as a coherent unit. Often, water is the primary transport agent for the flow.

Install flexible pipe fittings to avoid gas or water leaks. Flexible fittings will be less likely to break.
